SOHO: The Experimenters' Operations Facility (EOF)
The SOHO Experimenters' Operations Facility (EOF) at NASA Goddard Space Flight
Center will be the nerve center for SOHO science operations. Each Principal
Investigator group has one or more workstations for monitoring instrument
health and safety, receiving science and housekeeping telemetry, and composing
and uplinking near-realtime commands to their instruments. Six experiment
teams
(MDI,
CDS,
SUMER,
UVCS,
LASCO,
and
EIT)
will have permanent operations teams at the EOF, while the other PI teams will
join them for observing campaigns.
The team members working at the EOF will
hold daily meetings to adjust the weekly science operations plan in response
to changes in solar conditions, ground station support, and spacecraft
staus. The near-realtime command capability will also allow experiment teams
to modify their observing plan parameters and see the effects of those changes
in realtime telemetry: they will be able to operate their instruments just as
ground-based observers do.
